What this book
is for.

Everything here already exists. This book is the record of it — the identity as built and shipped on the BMF Cannabis Company site, written down so that packaging, print, retail and anyone working on the brand next can match it exactly rather than approximate it.

Screen values are the source of truth. Where a print equivalent is given, it is a translation, and the note on that page tells you what survives the translation and what does not.

What it is

A full adult-use collection presented in the language of luxury goods rather than the language of dispensary retail. Discretion, weight, and a single colour held across every format.

What it promises

Premium product, unmistakable presence. Top-of-the-room flower, hand-finished, batch-coded and third-party tested — sold only where the shelf is treated like a showroom.

How it behaves

Quietly. The brand never raises its voice to prove itself. Confidence is carried by restraint, detail and consistency, never by volume or by claims it cannot evidence.

The brand at a glance03
02 — The storyBrand
1985 The year the standard was set

“He didn’t wait for a seat at the table. He imagined a bigger table—and built an empire around it.” The founding principle

The Story

A vision bigger than one name.

Raised in Detroit, the visionary behind BMF understood early that presence could become power and loyalty could become legacy. His story is one of magnetic leadership, calculated ambition, family, music, culture and a relentless refusal to think small.

The name grew beyond its origins, entering a larger cultural language built around confidence, excellence and making something unforgettable from where you started.

This collection does not imitate the past. It carries forward its boldest principle: move with purpose, represent your people and build something that lasts.

Naming constraint — non-negotiable

The story is always told without naming the founder. Copy refers to “the visionary behind BMF”, “the founding principle”, or the year. No individual is named, quoted, or pictured in any BMF Cannabis Company material.

This is a hard rule, not a stylistic preference. It applies to web, packaging, print, retail, social and press.

The story04
03 — The codeBrand
The Code

Five words that decide everything else.

The pillars are not decoration on a wall. When a decision is close — a supplier, a partner, a claim, a discount — these are what settle it.

Power

Earned quietly and spent carefully. It shows up in the work, never in the volume.

Loyalty

To the people who were here early and the ones who never had to be asked twice.

Respect

Given first, to everybody — the grower, the budtender, the customer holding the jar.

Family

Not who you're related to. Who stays when there's nothing in it for them.

Justice

A legal market that doesn't forget who built the culture before it was legal to.

Using the pillars

Quote them sparingly and never all five at once in marketing. One pillar, tied to a real decision, carries further than a list.

The code05
04 — Voice and toneLanguage
Voice

Short sentences.
Nothing oversold.

The voice is declarative and unhurried. It states what was done and lets the reader draw the conclusion. Where the site says “Machines are faster and cheaper. They also knock the trichomes off, so we don't use them,” it never says the flower is superior — it gives the reason and stops.

Sentences are short. Claims are specific and checkable. Adjectives are rationed, and superlatives are avoided entirely unless they can be evidenced on a certificate of analysis.

Do

  • Lead with the specific: fourteen days, sixty degrees, single room, hand shears.
  • Let a fact carry the boast. Describe the process; skip the verdict.
  • Write in sentence case. Reserve uppercase for eyebrows and small labels.
  • Use “we” for the company and “you” for the retailer or adult consumer.
  • End on the plain statement rather than the flourish.
  • Say “adults 21 and over”, “licensed retailers”, “batch-coded”.

Don't

  • Name the founder, or allude to him closely enough that the name is supplied.
  • Use street or crime vernacular to borrow edge. The brand reads as luxury, not as lore.
  • Make health, medical or therapeutic claims of any kind.
  • Use youth-coded language, slang, cartoons, or anything that could appeal to minors.
  • Stack superlatives — “the best”, “unmatched”, “world-class”, “insane”.
  • Promise potency figures outside what the batch COA supports.

Boilerplate — short

BMF Cannabis Company is a licensed California adult-use brand producing small-batch indoor flower, live resin, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles and infused beverages. Everything black. Nothing average.

Boilerplate — long

BMF Cannabis Company brings a blacked-out luxury language to a full adult-use collection. House cultivars are phenohunted in-house, grown in sealed single rooms, slow-dried, hand-trimmed and cold-cured before full-panel third-party testing. Products are sold exclusively through licensed California dispensaries and delivery services to adults 21 and over.

06 — The markIdentity
The Mark

One lockup.
No variants.

The mark is a single fixed lockup: a chrome-rendered serif “BMF” held between two hairline rules, with “CANNABIS COMPANY” letterspaced across the lower rule. It is not a wordmark plus a separate symbol — the rules are structural, not decoration, and nothing inside the lockup is reset or respaced.

There is no horizontal variant, no stacked variant, no icon-only version and no monogram. Where space is tight, the whole lockup gets smaller.

The mark08
07 — Clear space and minimum sizeIdentity
X X

Clear space X equals the cap height of the B. Nothing enters the field.

Clear space

Measure it off the B.

The exclusion zone on all four sides is equal to the cap height of the letter B in the lockup. No type, rule, image edge, product, badge or page fold may enter that zone. On a photographic ground the zone must also be visually clear — a busy area of the image counts as an intrusion even though nothing is printed there.

Minimum sizes
  • Print — full lockup28 mm / 1.1 in wide
  • Print — foil or deboss34 mm / 1.35 in wide
  • Screen — header74 px wide
  • Screen — footer / hero130 px and above
  • FaviconUse the supplied 64 px asset, not a scaled lockup

Below 28 mm the letterspaced “CANNABIS COMPANY” line fills in. If the mark must go smaller than that, it does not go there.

Clear space and minimum size09
08 — The chrome finishIdentity
Finish

Chrome is a light source.

The chrome effect is a fixed six-stop gradient running at 177 degrees — near-vertical, tipped a fraction off true so the highlight never reads as a flat band. It is the same gradient on the mark, on display type set in chrome, and on the engraving plate. It is not re-mixed per application.

Where chrome is allowed
  • The logo lockup, always.
  • Single display words or short lines — “Detroit.”, “1985”, “Are you 21 or older?”
  • The engraving plate and its numerals.
  • Foil, embossing and metallised substrates in print.

Never on body copy, never on a paragraph, never on a button label, never on more than one element in the same field of view. In print, chrome becomes a metallic foil or a duotone grey build — it is never simulated with a gradient of process inks at small sizes.

The chrome finish10

Never

The mark is supplied finished. It is not a starting point.

No colourThe lockup is never tinted, filled or recoloured.

No rotationThe lockup sits level, always.
No added effectsNo glow, bevel, outline or extra shadow.
No reduced opacityMinimum is 90% on dark grounds.
No croppingThe rules and both lines stay intact.
No rebuildingNever reset the type or respace the rules.

Also never: place the lockup on a photograph without checking the clear-space field is visually quiet; pair it with a second logo inside the exclusion zone; add a tagline, licence number or descriptor as if it were part of the lockup; or animate it with anything other than the approved sweep on page 25.

10 — ColourColour
Palette

One colour,
nine steps of it.

There is no brand colour in the usual sense. There is a single neutral ladder from ink to chrome, and one warm accent held in reserve. Every surface in the identity is a step on that ladder — the interest comes from the interval between steps, not from hue.

Print note — Ink, Pitch and Coal are one colour on press. The distinction between them is a screen-only device and must not be specified as three separate builds; use a single rich black (C60 M50 Y50 K100) for large solids and K100 alone under small type. Where two dark tones must read apart in print, use a varnish or finish change rather than an ink change.

The amber rule

Amber is the only non-neutral in the system and it carries a single meaning: attention required. Form errors, an unchecked age confirmation, a compliance warning. It is never used to decorate, to highlight a product, or to signal a promotion. If amber appears on a layout and nothing is wrong, it is wrong.

Substrate

In print the ground should be a matte or soft-touch black stock rather than a gloss. The identity depends on the contrast between a dead-matte field and a specular highlight — foil, spot gloss or metallised chrome against uncoated black. A gloss ground flattens that difference and the mark stops reading as metal.

The Collection Premium product. Unmistakable presence.
Italic as emphasis

Headings carry a single italic clause in a lighter tone (#C4CAD1) — the turn in the sentence, not a random keyword. One per heading, and only where the sentence genuinely breaks in two.

Detail you have to lean in to see.
Specification rows

The supplied renders carry a soft alpha edge tuned to #050505. Placing them on any other ground produces a visible halo. If a lighter ground is unavoidable — a retailer's own template, a marketplace listing — request a re-cut asset rather than compositing or masking the existing one.

Place

Detroit appears once, as a full-bleed night skyline behind a single chrome word. It is atmosphere, not a claim of origin — the product is grown in California and the copy always makes that clear elsewhere on the same surface. Standards

Six steps. No shortcuts between them.

Every batch runs the same route from seed to seal. It takes longer than it has to. That's the point.

01

Phenohunt

Dozens of phenos run side by side under identical conditions. One or two survive the cut. The rest never see a second round.

02

Single-Room Grow

Sealed indoor rooms, hand-fed and logged daily. No outdoor, no light-dep, no blending rooms to make a number.

03

Slow Dry

Hung whole for fourteen days at sixty degrees and sixty percent humidity. Nothing is rushed to hit a drop date.

04

Hand Trim

Every bud finished by hand with shears. Machines are faster and cheaper. They also knock the trichomes off, so we don't use them.

05

Cold Cure

Cured in glass at low temperature and burped on a schedule until the terpene profile locks in and holds.

06

Test & Seal

Full-panel third-party testing for potency, pesticides, solvents, heavy metals and microbials. Results tied to the batch code on the label.

Numbered markers are used here and nowhere else in the identity, because this is the only content in the system that is genuinely a sequence. Do not apply the 01 / 02 / 03 device to feature lists, benefits or product ranges.

Where a visitor has asked their system to reduce motion, the sweeps, ticker, rosette and parallax all stop and the reveals resolve to their final state immediately. The site must be fully legible and complete with every animation disabled.
